As of now, the GPS will zoom in and out depending on the speed you're moving...
I suggest implementing manual control over the zoom using hotkeys.

I'll vote negative actually. Studying should be done on the map and preferably before you take off. Adding zoom (and next, pan?) to the GPS seems like just a way to dumb things down to make it easier for ourselves. If you can't make a rough guesstimation on course and time to target using the map, or end up crashing because you had the map up, you're doing it wrong (and I'm not saying I'm especially good at it either btw) :) Using the map isn't that cumbersome.
Also, I'm running out of hotkeys. :D

Study a map before playing a PvP.... good one 0.o, only die-hard coop players would say that... because this would be extremely valuable in Player vs Player as well as coop if you're not a realism freak.

I agree with this idea, I was hoping some modder will make it though.
And I don't see why enabling zooming GPS is "dumbing down" ... I don't instantly feel dumber when I zoom my real GPS.

Well, I might be a realism freak - won't object to that :) But I'm not sure how it makes a difference for PvP versus Coop? You won't be able to see the other player on the GPS anyway, and most likely also not on the map. And the other player suffers the same disadvantage anyways. Valuable? Yes. Realistic? No.
However, when I think about it, and it's funny I didn't get these arguments myself: Auto zoom is more dumbed down than manual zoom would be :) So consider my vote changed. I don't really care as I'm infantry myself, and rarely get the benefit of a GPS anyways :) I actually wish the map version was only available in GPS equipped vehicles (most, except trucks), while you'd only get the old style GPS (numbers only, no map) as infantry.
The only drawback is "yet another keybind" to learn and find the keys for...
