Description

Weapons fired from a distance are heared instant instead of the usual and proper delay.

Repro
Start mission and use binoculars to look at the enemy down the runway (half way).
Tell your AI to start firing at the enemy sniper (KSKV).
Keep looking at the enemy sniper as he is firing his weapon at you (allowDamage=False on all).

One thing to note is that the first shot might be correct with delay. But keep looking and the problem should come where there is no delay.

Reported on many systems and many soundcards.

As Alex72 mentioned on BI forums... it seems to be a bit random as to when it works and when it doesn't...

Funny that this has been ignored since - might just be too hard to fix.

Only the first shot in a short series of shots will exhibit correct SoS behaviour.

I remember this feature working fine when it was first implemented in a beta patch. Am I wrong?

Updated by Fireball over 4 years ago

No, you are right: It was initially broken, then fixed and working for one version or so and then broken subsequently again.

able hear it myself with 78818
like for first magazine shot
You hear crack then shot
next shot You hear shot then crack
next shot You hear crack then shot
loop

rarely you hear both at once
also usually pause (esc + alt-tab then pack and unpause)
will make it easier to happen

used this mission which makes it easier to separe both snipers firing etc.

first You pick target for your AI sniper and then team-switch to Independent in middle ...

  • Language set to Please set for missions

Any progress?

I remember Dwarden saying that it was difficult to code the speed of sound for burst or automatic fire.

And yet, single shots by a sniper come out of order a lot as well. The problem is still there, rest assured.

the attached mission should be easier to reproduce - you can hear when the actual shots are taking place.
