Description

The M1A2 TUSK made by BI should be replaced by a M1A1 HC with TUSK 1 Upgrade. For that we can use Matecks model we already have ingame without any restrictions.

TUSK I - Basic kit (Already in use and fielded with M1A1HA/HA+'s, M1A1HC's, M1A1AIM's, M1A1D's and M1A2, although not all components are necessarily fielded in every tank)

  • Abram Reactive Armor Tiles I (ARAT I), a block type tiles only in lower hull
  • Loaders Armor Gun Shield (LAGS)
  • Loaders Thermal Weapon Sight (LTWS)
  • Tank Infantry Phone (TIP)
  • Power Distribution Box (PDB) which gives power outlets to new TUSK subparts
  • Drivers Vision Enhancer (DVE), Drivers thermals
  • Counter Sniper / Anti Material Mount (CS/AMM), .50 cal over the main gun tube (according to photos seldom fielded at least in early stages of TUSK)
  • Anti-Mine kit: Abrams Belly Armor (200mm extra V-shape armor under belly) and Mine Resistant Drivers Seat (seat hanging from the roof)
  • Only installed to M1A1's versions that doesn't have CITV: Remote Thermal Sight (RTS), Thermal to commander's .50 cal

The Counter Sniper M2 is optional as some other features are. Most important are the ERA blocks for the left and right side along with LAGS and RTS.

I think it is easier to handle the M1A1 HC TUSK 1 with an already better looking model then the original BI M1A2 TUSK - which isn't even in use by USMC.

It would be nice if one of the modellers could handle this with adding the ERA blocks and few minor details to the model of the M1A1 HC we already have.

For more information just contact me. I attatched some pictures of the M1A1 with TUSK 1.

Looking forward to this on a M1. A Lot of this can be optional in the model. Texture-tweaks are needed as well. Do we have the original files?

I think this shouldn't be a future feature.

With a small amount of work we can get rid of the ugly BI M1A2 TUSK and have a fully working and usable TUSK.

Parts like the ARAT or the LAGS could be borrowed from the ACE1 M1A2 TUSK. The M2 Counter-Sniper weapon is just like a second coaxial, hard mounted on the main gun - so no big animation or config work.

When it comes time for a new M1A2 SEP TUSK, I believe the plan to fit a .50 cal RCWS was dropped. Instead the commanders .50 has an armor gun shield and armor on the sides of his cupola.

http://www.militis.pl/images/photoalbum/album_10/77710.jpg

I believe those cut-outs on the side armor panels enable the commander to still look out the cupola when buttoned up. While it is tough to see in these photos, the side armor is on both sides of the cupola. The commanders hatch when open also provides a degree of protection to his rear.

In urban combat the M1A1SA with TUSK kit has something of an advantage over the M1A2 with TUSK kit, since the commander's M2 .50 is controllable from within the tank.

The CS/AMM .50 cal machine gun is typically loaded with SLAP ammunition. I suggest it have a long reload time since in reality somebody would have to climb out of their hatch to reload it.

Voted negatively purely because it suggests replacing it. Why not just add the M1A1HC TUSK, leave the M1A2 ingame? It's perfectly good as it is, never understand why people choose to replace instead of adding.

The motivation is in the ticket, however, maybe the current m1a2 can be assigned to a faction that does use it,
while the new one will be in USMC faction.

Updated by Max255 over 5 years ago

Yes, I agree here. Move the M1A2 TUSK to the US Army (also desert version would be nice) and add the M1A1 TUSK1 for the USMC.

Updated by KingHomer over 5 years ago

Good news:
The M1A2 TUSK is already for about 2 weeks settled in US Army faction.

Bad news:
The replacement was requested because of the overall badly modelled M1A2.
- no proper CITV use
- ERA not placed correctly
- loader can't turn in
- loader using a fantasy gun shield instead of TAGS
- severe detail issues
- no proper hitpoint LODs
- wrong gun

BI wanted to represent a M1A2 SEP TUSK Version III but they failed.

Wait, so does this mean that the M1A2's going to be completely removed from the game when you run ACE? Or is it still going to be left in with the U.S. Army faction and the USMC will get A1 TUSK I?

Updated by KingHomer over 5 years ago

US Army will get a normal M1A1... and M1A1 TUSK

Updated by TheBlessedPig over 5 years ago

Is the M1A1 TUSK used by the Marine Corps too? Or is it Army only? thx

Updated by KingHomer over 5 years ago

The TUSK is used by the Marines aswell. =)

Hey guys, question: is there a way to make the A1-HC/TUSK not completely wipe out M1A2's from the game? I'm currently running a number of peripheral addons in addition to A.C.E. which used to have M1A2's under their lists (i.e. Armored-VIL and MYO15 Vehicles) but now have their M1A2 options completely removed. I guess what I'm saying is whether or not there's a way to keep both the M1A2 available to third-party addons while running A.C.E. but also retain this new A1-HC/TUSK unit. Thanks.

Ah, thanks for bringing that to our attention, that's an aspect i've not considered.
scope should be defined 2 in addons, however it's normally not required if you already inherit from a class that by default has that defined.
I suppose we could add a userconfig flag for it, or maybe other options, King Homer ?
Crude method would be to add an addon with a simple config that makes the m1a1 available again, but this wouldn't be MP compatible (signatures) :)

In any case, a small consolation for the time being; each vehicle is spawnable with createVehicle, or by manually editing mission.sqm, and entering the classname in vehicle="".

The M1A2 shortly will be replaced by a new model made by Aushilfe. Along with that the original model will be available again when ACEX isn't used.

Right, but ACEX offers way too much awesome content to be removed from gameplay :D

So the M1A2 will (hopefully) be re-introduced as an improved model at some point in the future?

Any news on when we will get the M1A2 made by ACE? Currently, lack of thermal sight and the lack of turning in harass the use of the M1A2.

Updated by Sickboy over 4 years ago

by zGuba for next update;

Added turning in for BIS M1A2, and enabled LTWS helmet-attachable vision device for M1A1 with that toy when turned in.

Updated by Kalle-ErikV over 4 years ago

And if i understand correclty, the BIS m1A2 will have the LTWS also in the M240 like the M1A1 models now have?
ANd how is the vision from inside when turned in?

Updated by KingHomer over 4 years ago

No, we can't edit the model.

Updated by Kalle-ErikV over 4 years ago

So there is no way to get the LTWS for A2 loader while having the BIS model?

Updated by zGuba over 4 years ago

Configwise it is possible, but there's no LTWS on BIS model's loader's gun so that would be "ghost" LTWS and I doubt if that's exactly what we want yet.

Until custom model is provided, I have only enabled turning in for M1A2. So no revolution there, as KingHomer stated before BIS model is completely wrong.

The loader's vision inside M1A1 w/ LTWS would be a try of replicating HMD that could be connected to the thermal device.

http://www.rockwellcollins.com/products/gov/surface/soldier/soldier-systems/index.html
"As part of the TUSK program, Rockwell Collins is supplying our HMD for the Loaders Thermal Weapon Sight (LTWS), which is being used as a remote viewer. The LTWS viewer is based on the same proven HMD that was fielded for the Land Warrior (LW) and Mounted Warrior Soldier System (MWSS) programs. This new capability allows the loader to identify and engage targets in day or night combat situations with the M240 machine gun from a position inside the tank."

AFAIK this gadget was deployed in combat already. The change itself is not revolutional as well, just little change of optics model and PoV while turned in.
