History

Updated by VKing almost 6 years ago

Mk12SD uses same sound as Mk12/M4.
M1911 still sounds .. weird somehow, like someone banging on a metal bucket or something.

Updated by zGuba almost 6 years ago

IMO M240C sounds quite powerless.

Updated by zGuba almost 6 years ago

Other:
- too much sample rate variation /config side - shouldn't vary more than ~3%/
- shots are hearable inside helicopters 500 meters away like they were shot inside - and player cannot measure distance to shooter at all.

BTW this ticket has to be moved to ACEX

Updated by rocko almost 6 years ago

Should maybe better stay here. I got the impression ACEX project is less frequented than ACE2 project.

-Sounds that suck:
MP5
M60
M240

M240_veh sound is used also for HMMWV or MH60 and sounds wrong there. MG is in the "open" but sounds muffled (like for M1A1)

Updated by tpM almost 6 years ago

Thx Rocko, you suck too :D

Is it possible somehow to add the infatry M240 sounds to the Hummers and MH60's M240?

Updated by rocko almost 6 years ago

Yes.
In the config.

Define a new weapon, based on class M240_veh. Call it ACE_M240_veh_out.
Change the sound then back to the regular M240 sound file.

Assign the new weapon to all vehicles that should have the "_out" sound.

LAV_HQ
HMMWV_Armored
(MGNest)
MH60

Should get the new weapon then.

Alpha 3 milestone is due in 3 days. We need more feedback on sounds so we can start making corrections thanks.

Updated by VKing over 5 years ago

In my mind the M4 sounds too diffrent from the M16.
They're essentially the same weapon with diffrent barrels, so it seems logical they should sound very similar.
Note that I've never heard either fired, so the accuracy of my logic is dubious at best.

Updated by rocko over 5 years ago

M60 sounds way better now

Updated by Scubaman3D over 5 years ago

The M16 and the M4 will sound slightly different. The shorter barrel length should, I think, produce a shorter, higher pitched sound than the M16's longer one. I have fired an M4 but not an M16.

Perhaps dslyecxi could comment.

ACE Task #5154: TEST: Feedback on weapon fire sounds

Glock 17/18 - Perfect
M4A1 - Sounds too tubed, needs more treble. Shorter barrels produce higher pitched, snappier sounds. The M110 is closer, but add more treble.
M110 - Perfect
203s - original sound has always needed a cleaner pop, one action noise.
M1014 - Needs a louder and possibly slightly distorted sound.
M240 - Perfect
M249/Para - Perfect
M60 - Sounds like it's in slow motion. Needs a higher mid range slapping sound, Pitched. Closer to the SAW with a lower mid-range (slower rate of fire obviously).
MP5 - Perfect
UMP45 - Sounds also like its in slow motion, Needs more Treble, and high end Crack.

M24/40 - Good*
M109 - Needs a heavier, possibly slightly distorted sound, different then the M107*
M107 - Good*
M16A4 - Good*
DMR - Good*

*All of these sounds are missing a slight echo, and or some slight, dimensional effect. I know it may be in a general sense too sophiticated for the games sound, but can be done in a over-generalized way that doesn't affect the gameplay in a negative way. Chammies Sound mods have produced this in the past in a non-detrimental way. If timed correctly with the travel rate of the round, it creates a better audio/visualization of the round in transit.

Updated by tpM over 5 years ago

Thanks. As far as I know a shorter barrel produces lower pitched and louder sounds because more gas leaves the barrel.
Could you test and post your thoughts also on the East weapons and launchers? please :)

Updated by Hellrazor over 5 years ago

That opinion is based upon the existing sound and how it could be improved.

Here are the remaining sounds critiques

AK47/RPK/AKS-74U - Perfect
AKS/AKM - Perfect
PKM/PKP - Perfect
G36s - All sound great, except the MG36, which is still the stock sound.
XM8s - All sound great, except the XM8 Automatic, which is still stock also I believe.
KSVK - Better then the stock sound. The echoing seems like it's lingering and not traveling away.
SVD - Great
Saiga 12K - Sounds Stock, needs replaced.
VSS - Perfect
Makarov - Is good, but needs more mid range.

M79/M32 - Perfect
Metis AT13 - Perfect
Strela - Great
Igla - Great
RPG/RPG18 - Perfect
Stinger - Great
Javelin - Sounds 100% accurate, Nice!
Smaw - Sounds Stock, need replaced

Great feedback Hellrazor! Thank you!
There are alot of sounds. Keep the feedback coming.
Try to review the sounds that have not been reported here.

From my experiences on the range I could not really tell the difference between a stock USMC issued M16A4 and a stock USMC issued M4. The last time I was out there (back in October) I was coaching two Marines shooting Table 1, each with a different weapon, and there was no noticeable difference to me.

Updated by Firebird over 5 years ago

For me M240 sounds too light, bright, klinging. I compared it to M249 which fires a smaller caliber but sounds much deeper and stronger.

Updated by mr.g-c over 5 years ago

I very much like nearly all sounds, TPM and other involved great job! Weaponsounds and explosions (the distant ones - WOW!!! I didn't knew A2 has different sounds for different distances) are awesome! For instance Pistol-Shooting with the great new way of recoil and the great sounds is just awesome.

But what can be improved in the future is the simulation of Bullet Cracks and close-by rounds, as well as certain impact sounds. In my opinion the impact sounds of bullets could be a little louder than stock A2 (i assume nothing has changed here from stock A2 so far).
I'll commit something from my collection later... having some Caliber specific HQ-cracks here on my PC, for instance from the Round fired by PK/SVD/etc. Also having these typical "crackles" like they sound at longer distances.

Am i right that now in Arma2 every sound can have a "distant-sound" effect?
If so i might have some great RL-distant sound explosions too, from GP25 Rounds impacting like 400m away...

Updated by tpM over 5 years ago

Thx, well the distant explosions you can hear are the same file, but A2 engine muffles it :) Same with weapon sounds...
Only sonic cracks can have 2 different ones: 1 close and 1 far (+50m).
And yeah, the impact and crack sounds are still the stock ones, gotta commit some new soon.

Does this mean the SA58 should have a diffrent sound from the FAL, then?

Updated by tpM over 5 years ago

Yeah, gonna add that soon too :)

In general, I like the sounds.

M4/M16 - good
MGs - good
GL - good
sniper rifles - good

I think the UMP45 SD sound could be better. The sound that a suppressed .45 makes has been described as ~the same as an unsuppressed .22lr in the open.

Here is a vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LruZqPg7V7E

It seems more "crisp" or has more of a " snap" sound to it (yes, this is a pistol, but it illustrates the point).

The MP5SD I think also can use an improvement. Again, I think it should have more "snap" to it.

TPM, i attached a cut-off from a video where they are getting fired at in Afghanistan by SVD. Its from the caliber 7.62x54R which also used by PK and other easter-block weapons.
I think you can make something out of the cutoff, if you leave the volume, people getting shot at shit in their pants.... :-)
IMHO after talking with lots of people and saw videos, the bulletcracks are that loud in RL when they are passing close... Arma2 defautl ones are way way way to silent IMHO

The second crack sounds better IMHO in the file. Situation where on open Field in Afghanistan and they were hiding in a trench, while getting fired at by a Insurgent Sniper.
