Description

#3505 described an issue where players could get double-kills. This was fixed in 1.04 but a different problem seems to have been introduced.

Sometimes players do not receive any points for a kill of an enemy player. I saw this several times myself today during MP play and have it reported many times by others. In the first instance, the first 2 or 3 kills I got were not registered at all although later on in the game the scoreboard did start working correctly.

Another observation from games last night... scores were going down as I killed enemy. ie, I started with 2 kills, shot an enemy and it then showed 1 kill. I am 100% certain that I was shooting a player from the opposing side so this was not a 'friendly' kill (and did not show up as so in the chatlog). Another player on the same team complained of the same problem.

Both server and client were 1.04 'official'.

Just to rule out another score. Rating was positive for all players right?

Yes, this was a CTF with well-defined east and west sides. It is possible (though unlikely) that the players I shot may have shot others on their own team. I keep a close eye on the chatlog during play and think I would have noticed if they had done so. I certainly hadn't killed anyone on my team.

need proper repro ... sometimes ... during MP ... is too vague to reproduce

Updated by sbsmac over 5 years ago

Dwarden, if there was a reliable repro case, I would post it. Unfortunately the only way I have found to reproduce this issue is to play the game with 2 sides in multiplayer. The problem is real - the only way it will get fixed I'm afraid is by someone who has access to the code putting some thought into what might be going wrong or (horrors!) actually trying some MP gameplay :-)

The only other clue I can offer is that seems to occur at the beginning of the game rather than starting half-way through, though you should treat that as unreliable evidence - players tend to be more concerned with early kills than ones later in the game so the problem may just not be noticed later.

We'll keep it at that for now and will have to re-check once we get the official 1.05 patch and then invest some time to reproduce this systematically.

I also hear whining from others about the stats while playing Benny's Warfare - I couldn't care less (since I'm not playing for stats), but it seems to be a problem for some.

Could also be mission-related FWIW.

Updated by sbsmac over 5 years ago

It's still there even with the latest beta client. This is NOT mission related - it happens on all sorts of missions from different authors. One observation that may be a clue..

If two players grenade each other simultaneously, only one of them will get then "X was killed by Y" message. The second player to die will get the "Y was killed" message.

I also hear whining from others about the stats while playing Benny's Warfare - I couldn't care less (since I'm not playing for stats), but it seems to be a problem for some.

Leaving aside the perjoratives, I intepret this as "This problem has also been observed in Benny's Warfare mission"

BTW, reproducability of this seems to be that I can see it every 3 half-hour games or so.

I have never seen this in the last 1-2 months.

So either related to scripting/AI/mission or special cases of dying.
If the last is the case, that should be rather easy to find out.

I have never seen this in the last 1-2 months.

You are unlikely to spot it unless you check your kill count regularly. Scripts have no ability to change the kill-scoring afaik. There may be some possibility it is related to the killer being killed before the first kill is registered, OTOH it also seems to occur with 'normal' kills.

AI are not involved in these games.

We will keep an eye on it while playing AAS in the future.
That said we have a few players very picky about the scoreboard and they are happy since 1.03(?). :P

I've seen change in latest BETA - for some reason it wouldn't count negative for kill with empty vehicles anymore in Insurgency.

That said, on a host server, the local player first couldn't get scores at all with a vehicle until some other (remote) player scored first at least once.

Any other voices?

Sorry I just realized that my latter statement matches the description of the bug. Negative kills with "empty" vehicles are a different subject.
