Description

Observed Result: Using setPlayable on non-playable units in a Multiplayer game does not result in any observable result.

Desired Result: The command should make the non-playable unit playable and it should update the slots in the assignment/role-selection screen.

Additional Notes: Additionally it seems to be a design-issue that the command is supposed to operate as: "setPlayable unit" and not "unit setPlayable bool". Should some work be spent on making this command work , one might consider this as well.

Reproduction: While one could assume this command has to be executed on the server , the reproduction mission was kept rather simple. The command was tested under different situations as well tho and no different results could be attained.
  1. After Loading the mission have one player connect to the server and have him start the mission.
  2. A second player should connect and confirm that no new slots show up as being playable.

Here is mission, it has two units added thru editor, one playable and the second not-playable.
The second have in its init box command "setPlayable this;".
But the unit would be still not available in MP lobby as slot for JIP players.

Please, fix this command very soon.

Updated by kju about 5 years ago

The command works for SP and also in MP; but not to your expectation and the said description there.

You cannot create new playable slots on the fly.

If this command was ever designed to do this is the question here.
Most likely not as it is probably a very complicated matter to dynamically add a new playable instance.

OK, but 11 months till someone respond with "that it is working perhaps OK" ... is not enought for closing this issue down.

How should this command works really ? Description on BI's WIKI is clear for me:

quote: "Create MP role for the unit. The roles created this way are used for Join In Progress and Team Switch."

So, who can give us clear answer to:
a) what this command suppose to do ( +fix description on BI's WIKI )
b) when it would be solved

Anyway, Kju, thanks for your time and quick respond.

  • Reproducible for you changed from No to Yes

a)
Try send Suma a short, precise and friendly PM or try via mail.

b)
No one.

If the description is faulty, there is nothing to fix.
If not, probably there is a lot effort involved to get this working and
why should this one have prio vs other issues? Does it have many votes for example?
Does BI utilize it for their missions?

Ok, so what is the description of the command and how is it supposed to work kju? It surely isn't what annunaki, looz, suma, raedor and planck have posted here or on the biki, so please share the love.

To Anunnaki:
Who is closing down this issue?

This is a community project. There is no reason for BI to comment anything here.
Despite that you already have it assigned to Dwarden.

Again without any inside knowledge. I assume this one has little prio for BI
as they don't need it and either it's not meant to do what the BIKI says,
or it is at least complicated to get it working.
Finally not having many votes does not put this into the spotlight either.

Of course, my fault, sorry for tone, and thank you for correcting my post. I was little angry on BIS that they are releasing new and new vehicles, weapons, island and other garbage with very poor quality, instead developing, fixing and enhancing existing stuff or game core or creating NEW COMMON SCRIPTING COMMANDS !

I was thinking that this bug tracker is primary tracker for BIS, so sorry when not.

Quote: "I assume this one has little prio for BI as they don't need it" ... i agree.
Quote: "and either it's not meant to do what the BIKI says" ... i think that this command should do exactly, what is written in BI's WIKI. Do you know about something other, what this command is doing, even in SP ?
Quote: "or it is at least complicated to get it working" ... i don't think it is so complicated to do. They have not finished this command or they even don't know about troubles with this command. When units are added in mission.sqm as PLAYABLE, and it is working, i don´t see, why it should be complicated to make it working with the same units, in the same mission.sqm, which are NOT PLAYABLE, with the command "setPlayable this" in theyr INIT namespace, because that INIT is executed instantly ather UNIT is added. I think that all properties and values added thru mission.sqm to the units are trhu processing mission.sqm by the game engine setted thru "INVISIBLE INIT" too.
PS: How and where (SUMA) can i contact someone from BIS about this command functionality ?

Anyhow, you said the command worked in SP and MP, so how does it work?

Updated by fatmanf22 almost 5 years ago

Does anybody have an update on this issue from BIS?

Unfortunate. How much weight does this bugtracker hold with BIS? This feature is still holding back a few of my missions.
