Description

I can only hide parts and set the whole project private/public.
Does RM not yet have finer grained permission settings?

Each Project can be switched between Public and Private, and in the settings > Members tab, per user permission: Manager, Developer and Reporter.
For a public project, you only really have to take care of the Manager and Developer permissions I guess.
For a (semi
)private project, you can give basic access through the reporter role.

Are you able to work with these features, or would it be important to look for a plugin / create one?

There are many different permissions you can set per role.
If you are redmine site administrator you can create new roles and assign specific permissions to these roles.
Contact me on Skype and we will speak about it.

See http://redmine.ruby-lang.org Ruby-1.9 project, has for instance a "Release Manager"
