Description

It's possible to get stuck in a tree by parachuting and have no way to get out short of restarting the mission.

As noted, it should be possible to script the addition of a 'Cut Parachute' item in the command menu. Having this in-game already seems like a good idea, though - it's quite game-breaking if it happens, currently.

Eh, I think this is for a change quite realistic. Even if you would take it on you to cut yourself lose, you'd probably just fall to death or severe injury, in most of the cases! There have been quite a few peoples starving to death, hung up in trees, unfound for too long.

The main issue is that you're just stuck and can only restart.

Even cutting the parachute and falling to severe injury and/or death is better
than "I'm stuck and have to restart the mission". Within the context of the
simulator (we aren't starving to death here), it seems the only really sane
option.

Also note (from the forum thread) that the problem is compounded by the fact that
parachutes can apparently get stuck on sloped ground. So you're stuck, feet on the
ground, unable to detach...

I've not had that happen to me, though.

  • Subject changed from Parachute into tree to Stuck in tree with parachute means you're stuck in the mission

  • Status changed from New to Feedback

So, you are stuck in a tree and you would prefer a suicide over being "stuck"? Let's see, if you die in the game (as in suicide) you either have to load the latest auto or user save or, yes, restart the mission. You can always revert manually to the latest auto or user save, so you have more options than restarting - but death is never an option (more a pun than anything else :).

What you want is actually a feature request for a "cut free" option, which might give a slim chance to survive, depending how one is stuck, do I read that right? If yes, I'll make this a feature request and take your wording from your comment.

This should be kept separate from the bug when you are stuck with the inflated paracute on the floor (i.e. a real bug); if you mean that one, it should be worded differently too and a repro mission and/or repro steps should be included if possible.

The ACE2 mod contains a fix for this. Parachutes appear to always have a "Get Out" option in the action menu, meaning you can never get stuck (you can still fall to your death using "Get Out" whilst stuck in a tree).
