This issue aas not in v1.02.

-Nvidia 8800GTS 320MB (Drivers 190.38)

These "lines" aren't possibly the ricochets?

No. I can see clearly that either it looks like the image files arent cut properly or it is a graphical issue. Its like when smoke are cut off to the ground but in the air and leaving a thicker line at the cutoff area. There are many times like 10-15 of these lines around the impact. Perfectly matching to every spark etc. Looks like a caleidoscope with perfect lines around the impact.

I was unable to see those lines, as much as I tried with my Nvidia 8800 GTS 512MB and same driver.

I guess need more reports from others to see the parallels...

Some of us have noticed that v1.03 have new impact effects, and i guess thats one reason. I hope BIS looks at those a second time as this graphical issue was not in v1.02.

Updated by Alex72 almost 6 years ago

Forgot to add that this is with 1024x768 resolution (i play with AA=HIGH but same without AA).

+ Same kind of line is visible under the holo sights as well. Just under the red aiming circle (comes and goes as the unit breathes).

PS. Dont get why this is voted down? Its a bug wich makes it looks bad while playing. Maybe its a low resolution, but i think people with lower res has the right to get their anomalities fixed as much as anyone else. Not everyone can afford high resolution computers. And everything else looks very good except these lines that are present at impacts (around sparks) and holo sights. Maybe somewhere else as well.

The negative votes only symbolize that others think that the bug might be specific to your hardware/setup. It sounds like some specific driver setting issue. Can you maybe tell us what kind of settings you set in the Nvidia control panel or what other quality settings in the game you have set, which might affect this.

When you talk of "lower resolutions" - with the same card I'm playing the game at 1680x1050, both 2D and 3D resolution. Can you maybe elaborate what 2D and 3D resolution you play, so I and others might have a chance to reproduce this?

EDIT: I just reduced my resolution to 1024x786 both for menu and 3D - no such visual problem, whatever I try.

I'm making a night mission currently for a bigger event and while waiting for AI to get spawned I started shooting with a normal AK against a corrugated sheet fence. And voila, white lines at the outer sides of the sparks.
Seems to be a texture problem. And I do have an ATI gc.

Updated by Fireball almost 6 years ago

Okay, can you maybe show this place/issue in a mission to reproduce reliably? Don't forget, what cannot be easily reproduced is unlikely to be fixed quickly...

Updated by Alex72 almost 6 years ago

Thaught i'd update with more images. This is not some "thing" i imagine. And its very easy to reproduce. Shoot at anything metal. Get a bit closer and use for example the DMR. Go scope and shoot at something 20 meters away for easy spotting of this "bug". And as you can see in the last image - it happens with water splashes as well. This doesnt happen only close up. I see it far away as well. Its not a bigge - but should be fixed as it looks butt ugly. Can it be my card only? Not sure. Havent seen it in ArmA1 or any other game.

Playing at 1024x768. All normal settings except AA=high, and PP=low.

It sure looks like some driver (configuration) error. I'm baffled. Can you give us some run-down of your Nvidia Control Panel changes (from the default)?

Updated by Xeno almost 6 years ago

It's not a Nvidia problem, I can reproduce it allways with my ATI gc.
I've tested it without AA. Just place yourself with a sniper rifle on the airbase and shoot against a light pole. Doesn't matter if it is night or day, but you can see it best at night.

Updated by Fireball almost 6 years ago

It might still be driver settings related, after all if you look at the settings, many of them are the same for both types of cards (or similar). Maybe you have made some settings for your ATI card which deviate from the defaults?

Can you maybe give the non-see'rs a hint how to reproduce it and provide a mission with the correct time of day and distance to an object to shoot at?

Updated by Alex72 almost 6 years ago

To me it does not matter what time of day it is. No matter what settings i use (still 1024x768 though).

Like i said: Shoot at something made out of metal and be close enough to see the sparks/impact effect good. That makes it easy to see it. But i see this even from a far.

No mission exmaple needed. Grab a scoped rifle and shoot at at something metally.

Updated by Fireball almost 6 years ago

Well it does only reproduce for certain people, so far not for the right ones. Need more info what's different in your setup towards mine or Dwardens.

Updated by Xeno almost 6 years ago

In what resolution did you try it ? 1024x768 or 1280x1024 ? Maybe it's not that visible in higher resolutions.

Btw, afair allmost the same problem allready existed in A1 where you could see the invisible model edges or texture edges when there were particles involved (smoke, dust).

AMD X2 6000+ 3.1Ghz
Nvidia 8800GTS 320Mb
2GB Corsair XMS2 800Mhz
MSI K9A2 Neo

But for me i dont care anymore. There are bigger issues and those arent voted for either. Seems people play with blindfolds/earplugs.

I've tried this same thing with both machines I have Arma2 on. One has Nvid other ATI. I can't reproduce. Not saying it doesn't happen, but I can't.

Me neither.

The number of more important bugs is to high to care about minor annoyances.
It might be a Windows 7 problem as I'm using W7 too, though 64 Bit version.

Unable to reproduce.

Madmatt was able to reproduce it by using setAccTime 0.1
Texture problem.

Updated by Fireball almost 6 years ago

Aah now I was finally able to reproduce it in the wheel cage of a LAV-25 - something with shadows (not the dynamic drop shadow).

See why a good repro is important.

This still happens in 1.05 and with 195.62 drivers (NVIDIA).

When using flares from Mandoble Missiles for example the lines are everywhere. Seems most effects that are bright gets this treatment on my machine. Images coming.

I'm not 100% sure if it is the same issue, but whenever I'm using smoke artillery, the edge of each texture plane has a visible edge. Like the alpha isn't made 100% transparent at the edge. If the same texture is used in the images above, only much smaller and applied differently, I guess what I'm observing could end up looking like that.
