Description

I was wondering if it was possible to give slightly different missile behaviors to the Ataka-V that the Mi-28 fires. If so, you should remove the spiraling behavior that is displayed by the 9K121 Vikhr; this trait of the Vikhr is due to the existence of only one control surface on the missile, so it has to do spirals to make adjustments to its flight trajectory. While I can't find anything explicitly stating it's use of a full set of control surfaces, the lack of data to the contrary makes it a safe bet to assume that the missile does. The missile also travels a bit slower (about 50 m/s slower) than the 9K121.

Do other missiles in a2 have a more stable flight path?

Updated by Xenomorph over 5 years ago

The Hellfire flies quite straight to its target, and it is also quite close to the Ataka-V's speed, though the Ataka is slightly faster by about 25 m/s. It has about a 40% increase in armor penetration over the old 9K114 Shturm, the missile carried by the Mi-24V/P.

Gotta work on simulation of Shturm system for Hinds and Havocs. Please be patient, for now Havoc will have the same missiles as Mi-24P ingame.

AFAIK Shturm-V missile has NATO codename AT-6 Spiral, and it was named so for a reason :) Ataka-V uses exactly the same guidance system, so I guess it flies quite wobbly and descends just before hitting its target just like its precedessor.

From unofficial sources I know that Q1184 has created working SACLOS missile guidance system for A2. I think it'd be wise to wait for it to be released.

How automated is the real system, though? I know that the Vikhr system, despite also being SACLOS, is quite automated. You simply use the Shkval TV system to acquire a lock, and the fire control system does the job of maintaining the laser illumination for the rest of the engagement, so long as you keep the aircraft within the laser's gimble limit.

Yup, but A2 has no "setWeaponDirection" command :(

Are you sure about the Shturm "earning" the nickname Spiral? A lot of NATO designations were made ad hoc or before there was much information about the object in question's capabilities. When I talk about the spiral motion of the Vikhr, I mean it's overall flight path, as seen in this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z03y04imhQg
The Ataka-V, by comparison, flies in a very straight trajectory.

You're right. Thanks for the video!

However on close engagement ranges their behavior is a bit unstable.
