Description

If backpacks could act as mini-tents, I would use them to stash my valuable loot, and operate without one, advertising that I have less loot than someone who is wearing one, and hopefully slightly diminishing another player's intention of killing me for my stuff.

If this became a trend, the excuse of killing another player for their loot is somewhat weakened. If they choose to team up instead, I might share the wealth I have stockpiled - but killing me won't give them the location of my stash.

But, right know (AFAIK), dropped backpacks have been known to despawn, delete items, and aren't saved between servers.

I can predict that if backpacks will be implemented this way, then rocket will have to make them as rare as tents. And this will be not really good, because I play two weeks and seen tent only twice as loot and may be a dozen setup by someone in the wilderness.

Why?

I do think we should start off with a smaller one. Like a 4 or 5-slot messenger bag. Brightly colored, so it's harder to hide :)

Don't get me wrong, I'm not agains, I don't mind it, just tried to see how much can it make our lifes easier, which is not the purpose of this mod as rocket stated :)
I would gladly use such a feature. Finally players would be just one more tiny bit more likely to return to a game if they have a storage for a rainy day. This can boost social and coop things too, because it's much easier to share things and build up secret support sites for your team. But again, this will add load to the database, because of many backpacks and items would be stored. Even if one person will be able to have three backpacks saved on the server, this will triple current data load. Just a thought.
