Description

I know that the fact to remove this feature has a significative impact on the gameplay difficulty, but it would also make it more realistic.

currently the fact to keep pressing the mouse 2 or "+" numeric pad give the player the ability to "zoom".

We can all agree here that this feature is purely fictive and impossible to do IRL, it's not because you focuse your vision somewhere than your eyes suddently magnify the surrounding.

when using the ironsight and keep pressing mouse 2 the ironsight could still come closer to the eyes, but there is no way you view magnify things like the current effects.

when keep pressing mouse 2, only the irongsight should appear closer, like if it was getting closer to your eyes, but the surrounding should stay the same.

can the ironsight be independent from the surrounding for zoom effect ?

I believe that the idea behind the 'zoom' feature is that in real life you can focus your eyes to see distant objects, whereas in ArmA, the 'focal point' of your eyes in-game is fixed. Having the zoom allows for players to be able to identify objects that, in real life, you'd actually be able to see in a lot better quality.

I believe Blackphython is correct. It's to simulate the "focussing" which ingame you cannot do because of your monitor.

Nothing fictive here.

A BIS developer has explained it quite good some time ago why it is in the game (FOV). Can't find it in BIF ad hoc.
