The player is group leader. Hold fire is a group leader order.
Not talking about the "cease fire" command by the tank/vehicle commander.
When the player is commander of the tank, the gunner will respect the "hold fire" command.
Otherwise (player as driver, in cargo or not inside) he will engage regardless.
One could argue the AI gunner feels threatened and engages therefore.
However with a player commander (not true for AI commander though) he does respect the "hold fire" command.
So I guess a "hold fire" should be respected in all situations - even when threatened.Repro
- Load attached demo mission in the editor
- Get into the empty T90 as driver
- Order one AI to get in as gunner
- Notice how he engages the M2A2
- Tell him to "hold fire"
- Notice how he continues engages the M2A2
- Switch to commander seat
- Notice how he stops engages the M2A2
Use BMP3 to test the hold fire while in back.
Stay outside the T90 to test that case.

Do you issue "hold fire" through squad order while commander or do you use the fire command to toggle between "Cease fire"/"Fire"? I assume the first one - did I read that right?
Sorry, the title makes it clear.
