Description

I noticed that the CROWS turret mounted on the M1A2 TUSK (both woodland and desert camo) request some changes :

- the Firing control system seems to be broken

- The external textures of the CROWS turret on M1A2 TUSK are low quality model compared to the textures of CROWS turret on HMMWV (details, lense reflects).

- M1A2 CROWS turret seems to have different kind of zoom stages compared to HMMWV CROWS. (HMMWV has more zoom stages (very close/middle/long range while M1A2 TUSK only has close-mid and mid-long range zoom view).

- the thermal view doesn't work the same way on both models (HMMWV / M1A2) :

on M1A2 TUSK you just need to press N to pass from daytime to IR, while on HMMWV you need to keep pressing on "+" or "-" to pass from daytime view to IR view and it also switch of zoom stages.

i don't know which version match with the real procedure, but it would need an harmonization for both versions since it's supposed to be exactly the same Turret (Kongsberg M151 Protector).

the HMMWV CROWS turret version seems to match more with the real one.

it's the laser range finder that doesn't work.

try to choose any range you want using TAB key, it will show you the distance but the machine gun will not be adjusted and will keep shooting wrong (its stuck with a fixed zeroing at 300-400m).

it's currently impossible to adjust for longer range.

ok. just a low priority suggestion anyway.

I found an interresting video showing that the M151 Protector turret doesn't work necessarily like the current ACE zoom stages appearances (close/mid/long zoom stages).

at 13 min 50s (french documentary)

It shows that the gunner have a progressive zoom, and can switch from daytime to IR without being forced to zoom in/zoom out (contrarily to the ACE HMMWV CROWS) apparently it looks like the CROWS Vanila zoom system.

The M153 CROWS II has the following camera settings:

Numbers in degrees FoV
Day sight: 45, 25, 10, 5
Night (thermal): 10, 5, 3.3, 1.7

I got these numbers from personally testing a unit and talking to the designers.

While it's true that the day camera has a mechanical zoom that can be manipulated to any value, the zoom control on the actual control stick only snaps between the aforementioned levels. The TI camera uses a digital zoom at those levels only.

I didn't ask how it worked in the M151, but considering the software would be almost the same (after SW updates to the M151), there's no reason to assume it works differently.

Re: Day/Night toggle. Yes, it doesn't work that way on the real system (you just switch between the cameras and it remembers the zoom for each camera), but we have no way to replicate that in arma.

Looks like the viewsettings for the M1A2 TUSK need to be changed to match the HMMWV CROWS (which is actually a Protector 151, for both vehicles).
