Description

I'm surprised no one made a ticket for this yet.

Currently in-game IR strobes are only visible when utilizing NODs, which is fine by itself, but not to FLIR systems.

IR strobes are usually used when operating with CAS (usually rotary-wing) to either ID positions of friendly forces or to mark a target area.

IR strobes were also used in 1991, at the start of Operation Desert Storm, to guide AH-64A Apaches inside a corridor that allowed them to strike at various iraqi EWR stations: according to the pilots, the IR strobes were visible through the PNVS (pilot night vision system), an independent, wide-angle FLIR camera mounted on top the main TADS assembly (wish we had that instead of having to rely on NODs, but I digress).

They were also used in Bosnia (along with GLINT tape when avaiable) when coordinating CAS from AC-130 gunships.

there are types of strobes visible only to NV and types visible also / only in FLIR

the ones in question are NV ones ...

this was explained already before as design decision if memory serves me well

This is something I could never understand: FLIR operates on both the wavelenghts of IR-NV cameras and above, so if something is generating infrared emissions, shouldn't it be always visible?
It doesn't help that I'm having a lot of trouble finding any specific information about the various IR strobes used in conjunction with FLIR cameras.
