Description

I noticed this now 3 times already... the AI detects Units not visible or audible yet and assigns them to their subordinate units, which then start to fire at them, but instead they hitting a Enemy, they only hit a hill-side or a tree or whatever.

This bug is IMHO close related to: http://dev-heaven.net/issues/show/1701
As its the same principle of detecting/attacking units not in your LOS.

Well, one would need a debugging mode that online outputs the "mindset" of the acting units. Could have been also suppressing fire that is implemented in a strange way. If a units that should deliver simply supressing fire to a x,y,z and there is an obstacle between......

Simple repro mission needed. Otherwise no go.

Keep in mind AI (groups) do communicate with other
and can hear.

Of course config values might need tweaking, yet without
a repro mission, no progress is to be seen.

Who decides this? you?
Since when are you a Arma2 Dev/Decision maker?
I will switch and post now all bugs rather in the BI-Forums as this is ridiculous here with your kind of miss-management everytime.
Do you think BIS pays attention to any "Feedback" tickets?
You can't have repro-missions for everything as things sometimes happen ocassionally only and whatnot.

Also im not a paid tester so i wont invest any of my important time in hunting hours for a single bug, furthermore BIS must be fully aware of this issue here, as its part of the big "Spot through everything AI-Bugs" Issue - its in fact even the follow-up after spotting a person behind a hill.

Keep in mind AI (groups) do communicate with other
and can hear.

This has nothing to do with this issue at all!

As you wish.

Anyone else willing to take over?

This is a community tracker and Kju is running it, for those who want to participate.

Yes, we do.

While this is true, one definitely can have repro for this.

Also im not a paid tester so i wont invest any of my important time in hunting hours for a single bug,

If you do not want to help, you do not have to.

The issue seems quite important. If anyone can provide a repro, it will greatly help me fixing it.

Suma i highly appreciate your response, however my point was the express my anger that Kju apparently decides which bugs are important or not (which is odd as hes no Arma2 Dev) and even worse that in many many issues, threats with "no no"/"no go" if the reporter wont add a repro mission.
And no, in the particular issue here, i was not ever able to repro it with a mission, and trust me i did try it multiple times, as i want as much as you the issue to be fixed.

So now that this bug still happens and is very very close related to the above linked bug, with the detection by AI through "everything", i'm convinced you will automatically solve this issue here too, once solved the detection-bug. Because if they can't detect trough hill anymore, they wont assign such targets anymore.

The repro does not have to be very reliable, even repro like "happens in mission XXXX 1 in 10 tries" can be accepted when there is nothing better. Problem is that without repro:

- there is nothing for me to debug
- there is no way to verify the issue is fixed

Even if you are correct and fixing that related issue would fix this, how would you verify if this is really fixed unless you have some repro?

Updated by mr.g-c almost 6 years ago

You have a point there of course... if i find some time the next days i will look and check if i can repro it again.

Updated by Suma almost 6 years ago

Note: it need not be necessarily you who will provide the repro. Anyone else interested in the bug can provide it. There seem to be 5 people voting up - therefore at least 5 people seem to know what the bug is, and they may be interested enough to be willing to contribute.

In #1626 CIT_1626_3.utes.7z mission, sometimes the enemy AI open fire at the building when player's guessed position (nearTargets) is behind it.

Nope, i was 2 times as this happen Member of a AI group and i heard the commander assigning the target (it was like "2, attack that missle soldier") to a guy. I was always member of Chernarus Defence Forces or Chedaki in my testing.
The guy which got that target assigned, then went prone in the middle on the airfield of Utes and fired on the hill. I was concerned then, ran quickly to the hill and saw him fire at a empty spot. Then i ran on top of the hill and indeed behind this hill was this Missle Soldier and immediatly as i was spotting him, my AI commander assigned me this target also.

Oh and btw, i noticed this bug already in Arma1 also occasionally.... but since Arma1 had so many other bugs/issues, i was simply hoping that such issues wont be in the holy-grail "Arma2" then.

Do you at BIS also care about suggestions made here? http://dev-heaven.net/projects/cis/issues?query_id=4

Were you able to repro this in patch 1.02 so far? This issue is still assigned to affected version 1.01.

Is this still present in 1.03?

A reproduction mission or recipe for reproduction is much better than conjecture or personal opinion. Given that this issue has not received any update feedback or reproduction steps for some considerable time, the feedback duration will not be extended. and it will be assumed resolved at that time.

A quick look at the issue list 1.03 and the related issue will show that bugs and feature requests are indeed addressed.

1_03: for this bug, a part of it should have been fixed in #1701, at least for infantry (target acquisition).
However, I also have seen my AI firing at hill tops, both with rockets and rifles. Was in a Domination. It seems like AI didn't account for ballistics, because they hit along the edge of the hill. No vegetaion was involved, as far I can remember.
