Description

add 3d Scopes for acogs and other sights.
So that it looks real like here:

So have a clear view in sighst but a bit blurry on the side.

You can also make it like for server option to turn it on or off if some people may dont like it.

IIRC this is the hardcodest of the hardcoded. No render-to-texture support.

This would be an awesome feature to have, but as Trips said, it's going to be hard to implement.
On the bright side VBS2 does support this, so hopefully someone will be able to enable this. I wouldn't get my hopes up, though.

I've actually seen this in a mod like AAW or something similar. The older versions but yeah it was really cool, you still maintained visual perception of what was around you and you didn't get tunnel vision.

By look it can only be made with 2 seperate image

1 Scoped [Zoomed for the scope look]
1 Near [Unzoomed for the surroundings]

Project Reality BF2 has made that kind of Scope effect but the surroundings were zoomed also, so they had to blur it.

Insurgency: Modern Infantry Combat (Fan made Mod from Source Engine) has this feature for all its sniper and ACOG

I think the way the PR team handled it for BF2 was a great idea. It would be nice to see something similar in A2, although I'm not sure how much work it would take.
As AvEngErZx mentioned, their zoom level is the same for inside and outside the optics, the only difference being the blur effect on the outside of the scope.

Absolutely, actually they only added a reticle and scope (Basically just a picture) in the middle of the screen and adjusted zeroing for the Bullet to hit the point, some example like Medal of Honor 2010.

Obviously seened their sniper has the entire screen zoomed, same for the ACOG. Render to Texture will take more memory I guess.

So most engine won't support it, they might as well put it as full screen reticle

Maybe move it into A2 CIT? Since it obviously should be engine feature.

We could add the increased vision with a two layer effect.

1. Enable Blurr when activating scope view.
2. Overwriting the blurr with the scope layer.
3. cutting the black background.

And how do you cut away the blur inside the scope view?

I've experimented with it already last year (during A2 times with radialblurr, etc) and all I can say is, it's not worth it with the current BIS engine.

Without render to texture it will always be a crappy feature as the surroundings are zoomed too.

Video to resource does exist now, so maybe one day we'll get render to texture too, though nobody can say when.

About removing blur inside the scope, the file "slx_optics_3d.pbo" in SLX mod has provided some visual effect(seems only made for XM-8) shown in my upload pictures. May this can help you ACE team improve the new "Sys_reticles" element.

And in my opinion, for better ranging and compensating bullet drop, the 3D scope concept in America's Army 3 is better than that appears in BF2:PR.
