Any chance of making it downloadable like PDF version etc. Or shoving it in @ACE folder for the newbies?

Updated by Sickboy over 4 years ago

Nice idea, could you have a look @ pdf animal?

Updated by AnimalMother92 over 4 years ago

afaik Wagn has no PDF export function. Could be done manually but might be a bit messy, especially when it needs to be updated. Any ideas on a clean way to do it?

Text file is still fine I suppose, would do the same job. Putting it on PDF would no doubt alter the layout of it and need fiddling around - looks better though. No idea's on any clean way to do it, best website that I know of that does such a thing is scridb.

It's always best to use windows word to alter any spelling errors and have an overall better program to use for layout before exporting it to PDF. Other than manually, it looks like there is no other way to do, sorry about that, was just an idea. If you need any help though I'm always free to help out, I have written a few manuals so I know the feeling.

Install a PDF printer or PDF plugin in your browser, and experiment I would say.

Any news?

Sorry, nothing atm, been away for Thanksgiving break. I'm back on it now.

Updated by rye over 4 years ago

GoogleDocs allows it to be downloaded off PDF. Then just copy and paste it to @ACE.

Updated by AnimalMother92 over 4 years ago

It's a start..

Updated by rye over 4 years ago

Yes that's the way, just needs a bit of work. Small file size which is good and it actually lets you click on the links through the PDF.

Say go over the highlighted "Vehicle Damage System" click it and it'll come up with that link which is cool.

Updated by AnimalMother92 over 4 years ago

Better looking I think.

Updated by rye over 4 years ago

Yeah a lot better for only 40kb more. :P

If only you could have the big list of features and how to notes... Maybe shove the class lists on there too? so people don't have to go to links and instead just go to @ACE and double click on the PDF then copy and paste class lists.

Anyways nice work man, if you need help I can try format it with you.

Attempt @ classlists

Although, I think in many ways the actual websites are superior to PDF, which will only be outdated quickly. Bookmarking the important sites for reference is a pretty good way to access the info quickly. I can maybe see having the Intro guide in the @ACE folder for some people, but one of the main advantages of doing documentation through Wagn is how easy it is to update, rather than being tied down to PDF.

I think it's not useful to want the whole thing in PDF's, especially not when it isn't automated.
Introduction Guide is a good idea, but dynamic and updated documentation is on our WAGN and Config Browser.
I'm not going to keep all the PDF's up2date every update, and I don't understand why you would want that anyway, certainly not when it are just snapshots/exports of web-pages.

Sickboy although i fully understand and support our point, i believe it is very helpful to have a downloadable PDF atleast for every stable release of A.C.E. .

Updated by Sickboy over 4 years ago

Each stable release starts making more sense indeed.
Still what is the effective difference between having a static PDF with the same content as a webpage,
or visiting the webpage and being able to create PDF of any of the pages at any given moment yourself? :D

I guess the answer is that nobody will do it, because they either don't know how to, or other reasons.

Some people don't know where to find the class lists :D Most people I know don't know how to use dev-hev properly, been on once, found it confusing then never used it again (even though it's really easy as we understand it). It's also easier to go into @ACE and just double-click your PDF for all the class lists, but it's really up to you guys if you want to keep that, just makes it easier than cycling through IE for the website. Maybe have a PDF with links only - click here for class lists kind of thing which will keep the space down and do the same job.

So yeah updating it is the problem, stable releases only is a good idea.

By the way Animal, nice job, you can copy and paste the names of class lists from the PDF to Arma anyway. Pretty cool.
