Reimplement Tracer lights
|Close Reason:||BIS / Engine problem|
sys_tracers was removed since ArmA 2 due to the improved built-in engine Tracers.
Tracer scripts usually run on about every bullet fired, by every person/vehicle in the mission,
some weapons have extremely huge RPM, imagine a lot of them firing at once...
So clearly, if engine tracers are sufficient, they are certainly preferred, leaving a lot of scripting performance free for other magical things.
Still, readding lightsources could be welcome, like BDKS's Tracer Lights. http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=12425
If only the lightsources could be added to the materials or otherwise through config...
When scripted, at least it should perhaps be an ACE Setting, so it can be turned on/off.

What I'd like to know is, do real tracers do that aswell?
I can understand 50cal being big and probably has more area to glow, but 556 or 762? Someone got some nighttime tracer fire videos?

Only time I've ever seen a obvious light from tracers (without NVGs, can't say for wearing NVGs) is when they "stick" in the ground and burn.
Though those videos of 50 cal fire do seem to have some light visible.
Here's a video of 5.56 tracer fire .. can't see any glow on the ground from the firing.

Seems to me that the light you're seeing in the videos is light that's been greatly amplified by the NVG's, if this effect were to be in game it'd have to be strongly toned down

Here you can see .223 tracers light up the environment in the dark:

I did find this video. I'm guessing this is 7.62, but can see a bit of glow as the tracer passes over the ground low enough. Could be wrong, but figured I'd post a link so the more knowledgeable persons can take a look. :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfsRNmvtKrM&feature=related

All for this feature, the mentioned addon makes night fights amazing. And it's realistic too, as evidenced by the videos posted above.

I find it highly overdone in that addon.
It can be toned down for more realism if that's your thing, but the main point of that addon (BD Tracer Lights) is to make night fights more impressive.
Anyway, I'm all for anyone expanding/improving the concept or even just implementing BD Tracer Lights.
