Description

Obs
Pilots can not get a target lock with guided missiles onto targets (ground or air) with manual fire when no gunner is present.
When fired, the guided missiles just flies straight.

Exp
Guided missiles should still possible to lock on without gunner as driver/pilot with manual fire.
At least when the "Auto guide AT" difficulty option is active.

Info
"TAB" key tracks a selected target but no missile lock (usually indicated by circle around the target tracking box) is possible and missiles cannot hit anything when fired.

All vehicles with the both gunner and driver seats with guided missiles are effected.

I can confirm the behaviour, but personally I think, it's by design.

Tell me, why do we need a double seated plane/chopper if a pilot could handle it all alone? I think that's exactly the job of the gunner: target acquisition and lock-on.

Updated by vasmkd almost 5 years ago

If that was the case i don't think the option "manual fire" should be there.
But as a player who likes single player it would make alot more use of the aircraft available. Even thou on some aircraft u wouldn't get the zoomable gunners sights etc
It's really just to make them more playable like other vehicles.
In tanks and other vehicles u can jump in as the gunner, commander drivers seat at any time so why not have some versatility in aircraft.

I agree with vasmkd, there is little point in being able to do anything with Hellfires in manual fire if you can't lock on to them.

How come this is happening now? The AH64 in ArmA 2's manual fire worked just fine, locking and all. I really think OA should be the same, like above, to keep vehicles playable.

Ever since OFP i have been able to use the aircraft with manual fire but since OA alot of my missions are now useless.
I checked ARMA2 standalone again and i'm able to track the target ("TAB" key) and the missle follows and hits the targets even thou the lock indicator circle around the box never shows up.

Also true for helos. Demo mission added.
Most likely buggy due to the introduction of delayed locking.

It certainly is a big change at least.

Hopefully Dwarden can get more light into this.

I tested this with Vanilla Arma 2 and newest beta 72588. I am able to hit targets with this as pilot when selecting manual fire. Opposite still true for OA Combined Ops

It will lock with AI or Players as Gunner, you cannot lock if there is no gunner in the seat.

It will just show up a box but NO Circle around it for a confirmed lock

Changed to feature ticket.

One can tab lock vehicles as lone pilot/driver with all weapons.
Only guided missiles need a gunner - so seems like by design.

Therefore this ticket is a request to change the default behavior.

By my opinion, this feature MUST NOT being changed, because in real life pilot has no instruments to guide the air-to-surface missile without a gunner. An example, vikhr, ataka and hellfire missiles can be guided TO THE LASER MARKER,OPERATED BY GUNNER ONLY.In case of single-man operated assault helicopters(Ka-50)or airplanes(Su-25,A-10) pilot takes gunner function while providing attack.During the pilot is busy, autopilot, which has been programmed to follow the ground previously and activated by pilot before the attack, taking control over the aircraft.Maybe this feature(manual control fot air-to-surface missiles)should be added to ArmA as an additional function, which will be able to enabled/disabled in difficulty settings by player.I probably will create a new ticket for this one...
My vote +1 is mistake, should be changed to -1

Add this:

At least when the "Auto guide AT" difficulty option is active.

It would be useful for SP to have an option to enable it again.
For MP I am more than happy to enforce pilot+gunner to use guided missiles.

Longbow Hellfire can be used to dispose detected anti-aircraft threats by either member of Apache's crew. Also I think that most Air-To-Air missiles should be able to be fired by pilot too - Fire and Forget ones in general.

Otherwise IRL gunship pilots are piloting and aiming FFARs, and weapon system operators (gunners) are the ones who should be targeting guided missiles and flex guns.
