Description

Expected result

Gunner, driver and TC are able to to see where the main gun and hull are directed to via a Indicator.

Observed result in OA ACE 1.5 update 1
At least the USMC M1A1 HC does atm not have a hull / turretindicator at all

Solution
Implement a realistic (not the default one) Hull/Turret Indicator on the TC's, Gunners' and Drivers' HUD.

Dear ACE team,

It would be well possible that one of you is allready working on this but I could not find a ticket on it so I created one.
The indicator from vanilla A2, even that it doesnt look like indicators in real tanks, was very functional so if we could get this one back that would be great.

What would a realistic Hull/Turret Indicator look like?

Updated by S2 about 5 years ago

this is what it looks like for the M2A3

And what rotates there? The "gun" or the "hull"?

Updated by S2 about 5 years ago

sorry, the gun rotates on that display.

If it's not possible to create a realistic HUD due to the lack of modders working on it, can we at least get the top left "radar" thingie back? Having played various times as a crewman, the FOV indicator BIS added in OA was a godsend, in particular in MOUT environments where being able to keep the gun aligned with the hull is important so as to not reduce the mobility of the tank, not to mention that when the commander says something to the effect of "Infantry left!" this would help me know where the "left" is. The "radar contacts" should be disabled, but the "radar" itself should still be present.

Implemented.
Note that it won't work until about 1 min into the mission as it has to preload all the indicator textures first so it doesn't flicker.

@Q1184, I see the ticket is closed now.
Since you updated this ticket to "set to feedback", with the note "implemented" I immediatly tried it out using the latest ACE version at that time.
At that time I did not see any turret/hull indicator ingame. With the ticket target version set to v1.5 at that time, I thought it was not ingame yet, since we are at 1.05 atm.

Seeing that the ticket was closed today,I tested it again (both editor and MP) but didnt see any indicators (i checked it on m1a2 tusk and m1a1 HC)

I'm using Arma2 CO (without Beta patch):
CBA v118
ACE v382
ACEX v259

So my question is, what did you implement exactly and how do I recognize that ingame?

make sure you sit in the gunner sight for a bit, it won't show up right away. It was working for me, but as he stated, it takes awhile for it to initialize.

Updated by q1184 almost 5 years ago

It might take several seconds for it to show up once you occupy one of the crew positions. And also

Hey q1184, I'm not sure if it would help with the loading time, and I should have been a bit more clear about that indicator, but IRL it doesn't show the exact direction of where you point the turret. The indicator has 8 positions, 12 o'clock,1.5,3,4.5,6,etc. So when you are moving your turret to the right, when your gun is between 1 and 2 o clock, it uses the 1.5 position. Again, not sure if that would help with load times, and it would be fine "as is" if not.

Yeah currently the step is 1 degree, so it takes a while to initialize 361 indicator textures. It's totally possible to use whatever step - if 45 degrees is realistic, I'll make it 45. Init time will get 45 times shorter :)

Updated by S2 almost 5 years ago

yeah, there are basically only 8 positions of it, they are in 45 degree increments. So, 0, 45, 90, 135, 180, 225, 270, and 315. There is about a 15 degree amount of play between each of the positions. When the turret is between 337 and 23 degrees roughly, the indicator shows the turret to the front ( 0 degrees ). and so on and so forth.

I didnt see any indicator yet at all, neither after waiting quite soem time.
I starting to doubt my game / system settings.

ACEX v259

Could you let me know what may be wrong?

Updated by q1184 almost 5 years ago

I'm not sure, really. I attached a pic so you can at least know where to look for it :)
