Description

Some AG missiles use Laser Designator on plane, but not bombs.

So is it possible to add LD for bombs ? All planes like Harrier/A10/Su have one irl.

For now precise bombing runs are impossible without it except if you dive over the target and eat all the AA.
Also the CCIP indicator for unguided bombd on the Harrier/A10 HUD is not real, only cosmetic and is totally not usable for bombing, so a LD even for "dumb bombs" would be welcome.

It doesnt have to be very elaborate at the begining, just like the Su34 LD. And btw another suggestion : could you put a bit lower the LD reticle on the Su34 on the HUD, because atm it's on the top of the HUD and you have to dive/lower your nose too much to put the reticle on a target.

Just clarifying that neither the A10A, nor the Harrier II Plus (the ones in game), has any form of laser designator, just laser spot trackers. So they can see lasers, but not target for their own weapons themselves without something like a LITENING pod.

I guess it's off the table then.

I always thought the one on the far right hardpoint was meant to be a targeting pod

Besides, are LITENING and Sniper XR not common enough to be considered?

That's an ALQ-131 ECM pod.

If we had a model for it, I suppose it could be used for what the OP intended.
I'm not sure how common they are, though. I also can't recall if the A10A can even carry one.

CCIP (continuously computed impact point) provides a display on the HUD where munitions will fall. Therefore you must be pointed towards the ground to use it (ie a standard diving attack). To use CCIP for level boming etc. the system has to know what you are firing at - this is given by marking the ground manually in the HUD (in LOMAC anyway), by radar, or some other means. It then provides a graphic on the HUD of where to release (im unsure if there is autorelease in the A-10, I cant remember, and whether it is optional or not). This even allows you to bomb while in a high G climb. Now I understand the story some pilot told me of fighter bombers hitting a target (behind a hill?) while doing an inverted loop or something, to show off to a visitor. All of this is relevant to "dumb bombs" (no guidance) and I am unsure whether it is used with LD bombs (maybe to help with dropping inside launch window).

Anyhow if CCIP could be modeled properly it would be very nice - is it possible in Arma 2? The laser marker system would be nice aswell but not as important imo.

Well if A10/Harrier have no LD - seems pretty odd since they carry bombs - at least they have CCIP and CCRP computer which in the case of Arma/Ace could be modeled as a LD.

So if you can switch the request to "Model rl CCIP CCRP bombing modes with a LD"

To see what is CCIP (Continuously Calculated Impact Point), play with A10 or Harrier and select bombs, on HUD you ll see a line with a circle at the end which represents the impact point if you release the bomb NOW.
CCRP (Release Point - this is what you re talking about fireship) allows you to literally "lock" ground target, fly over it or climb, and bomb is automaticaly released when computer considers it will hit target.

In Arma the CCIP marker is only cosmetic, bomb never hits what it is pointing (you realize that it requires some fast computation irl to know where a "dumb bomb" would land and paint it on HUD) and there is no CCRP.
Therefor the ability to lock ground with LD and manually release bomb on that lock would be a not so inacurrate modeling of the bombing modes any modern plane has.

And there is still my suggestion to lower the LD aim point on the Su34 HUD
And if you reject everything about Harrer/A10 LD at least don't forget to give one to the Sukhoi because they have one and don't limit it to missiles only but to bombs too :)

I believe someone on the BIF has tried to make a proper CCIP script, but I don't think it was finished, or he gave up.

If you do add some LGBs to the Su34 or -25, you can use the current laser designator to aim for them in the same manner as with the Kh29s.
