How to access ArmA 1 stuff

Added by Prittstick about 6 years ago

Hi, I just downloaded CAA1, so what do I need to do now? Do I need to copy some .pbo files from my Arma 1 install directory? Right now I can't find anything in the Arma 2 game menus from Arma 1, and also I can't find a readme file anywhere.

Thanks

EDIT: Also, when I try and use Arma 1 addons, it says "[addon] requires version 1.14" whenever I startup the game.

hello Prittstick :)

it depends what do you want to achieve.

Just to make sure:

  • Do you have the oac_core also downloaded?
  • Did you create a new shortcut to load the new folders, as described here

Load the modfolder via -mod=x\caa1;x\oac\oac_core

Basically, I want to get as much content as possible from Arma 1 into Arma 2. I have downloaded via addonsync, but a file called "CAA1- BI addons in Arma II.url" failed to download, and was skipped. I got an error from 7zip (file attached).

I added the shortcut line, and can access the Arma 1 maps in the editor, and can get the warfare buildings of the US Army and resistance, but nothing else.

Also, There is no x/caa1 ... files in the Arma 2 directory.

Any ideas? Thanks for your time.

Never seen this one. Did you try download/snyc/update again via YAS?

So you have the A1 worlds like Sahrani?
Do they look like it? Or it actually Utes just with a different name?

If you really have no .\arma2\x\caa1 folder that download failed.
Try again. Make sure to select all files in the pane of the left side
when you see the X folder.

Just tick the x folder and hit download.

RE: How to access ArmA 1 stuff - Added by Prittstick about 6 years ago

All the arma 1 worlds are installed and working fine.

RE: How to access ArmA 1 stuff - Added by kju about 6 years ago

Please upload the arma.rpt and make a screenshot
of your installation folders showing the content of arma2 please.

Or via console inside the arma2 folder.

dir /B /S >> fileList.log

Thanks. This does not look good.
No x folder, no other modfolders. Did you put the files into .\arma2\addons?

All the arma 1 worlds are installed and working fine.

I don't get this statement?
Are these the CAA1 files? Where are they?

RE: How to access ArmA 1 stuff - Added by Prittstick about 6 years ago

When I play Arma 2 I can access the Arma 1 islands in the editor and the warfare units of both sides but I have no idea where the files went to but some e.g the islands seem to have worked but the others have not.

RE: How to access ArmA 1 stuff - Added by kju about 6 years ago

Search for caa1*.pbo on your complete computer with windows search.

RE: How to access ArmA 1 stuff - Added by Prittstick about 6 years ago

I have found all the files but I can't access or see them in arma 2. The file you requested is not present and the locations of the files are in an odd place.

Looks good. Just add to your launch shortcut:

-mod=x\caa1;x\oac\oac_core

RE: How to access ArmA 1 stuff - Added by Prittstick about 6 years ago

Hmmm, the islands are working fine in the editor now, but I have all the OFP campaigns available, and some units from OFP are also available in the editor, such as the OH-58 and M1. Do I need to have OFP installed on my PC to get the OFP campaigns and units working?

Also, what do I need to do to get Arma 1 missions, units and addons working? Can I get them to work?

Thank you very much for taking so much time to answer my questions! Also, the site's feature of sending an email when the thread gets a reply is damn useful.

RE: How to access ArmA 1 stuff - Added by kju about 6 years ago

No worries :)

You can use the new OAC campaign and mission repository downloader:
Download_or_update_OAC.7z

I have yet to make a guide explaining the details.
Hope to get it done tomorrow. It contains several OFP campaigns we converted to A1
and now plan to convert to A2.

Basically any OFP and A1 mission or campaign should work in A2 with OAC core + CAA1.
That said several elements need fixing (briefing/at times scripts/mission intros),
and others tweaking (Micro AI).

Just put a mission into A2 and see how it goes.

RE: How to access ArmA 1 stuff - Added by Prittstick about 6 years ago

Okay, I'll dump some mission files into Arma 2 and see what happens. One last question, with Arma 1 addons, if they it says that it needs version 1.08, is there some way to alter it so it thinks it needs 1.03, or something like that? I get the impression by reading the page of this addon: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=6642. I need extended_eventhandlers in Arma 2 to get this and a Bradley addon from Arma 1 to work, and he says you can "simply using the Armed assault 1 version and changing the required version = _x to 1.02". Any idea how this is done?

Yep.

if they it says that it needs version 1.XX

Don't worry. Thats just a warning. No editing needed for this message.

I need extended_eventhandlers in Arma 2

Found here: CBA.

modEmMaik already ported his Bradley to A2.

RE: How to access ArmA 1 stuff - Added by Prittstick about 6 years ago

Thanks for pointing out those last two addons. Trouble is though, most of the addons that say they need a different version just don't appear in the editor. And some others, the British Forces+ UK weapons pack just crash the game. Ah well, I'm just glad that some of them work lol.

RE: How to access ArmA 1 stuff - Added by Prittstick about 6 years ago

Although the Bradley doesn't work. It shows again, when it says it needs a different version, the addon just doesn't show up in the editor. It says "smurfc_m2a2_repl requires version 1.09 of the application". When I go into the editor I cant find it and when I leave the editor the game crashes.

RE: How to access ArmA 1 stuff - Added by kju about 6 years ago

Infantry wont work as stated.
Did you get CBA?
Did you get the A2 version of the M2A2?

RE: How to access ArmA 1 stuff - Added by Prittstick about 6 years ago

I removed the two files from the addons folder that were for the Arma 1 Bradley (stupid me). So now when I start the game up it says the addon requires them, and there is no bradley in the editor. I put some screens below to show you, I got CBA and the A2 version.

RE: How to access ArmA 1 stuff - Added by kju about 6 years ago

Well its bit complicated. :)

You need to load:
  • smurfc_m2a2.pbo
  • smurfc_m2a2_a2_repl.pbo
  • oac_r_aav_smurfc_m2a2_a2_repl.pbo

RE: How to access ArmA 1 stuff - Added by Prittstick about 6 years ago

Where do I find the oac file? So is that why none of the Arma 1 addons were working? Do they all need a file like that one so that it will work?

RE: How to access ArmA 1 stuff - Added by kju about 6 years ago

x\oac\oac_replacements_a2_units\addons

Either download via the repro browser and build the config to pbo yourself
or download the whole oac source repos.

RE: How to access ArmA 1 stuff - Added by Prittstick about 6 years ago

I don't really understand the second link, the first one doesn't work. I can't find anythingt on the oac Yoma addon sync called "x\oac\oac_replacements_a2_units\addons". What exactly do I need to download?

RE: How to access ArmA 1 stuff - Added by kju about 6 years ago

There is no official release for the replacements so far.
It is just too much work to be done for me. Unless more people help out,
it gets done one by one. :)

So for now you can only grab the latest files from the source/dev repository.

RE: How to access ArmA 1 stuff - Added by Prittstick about 6 years ago

Oh okay, I understand. Do you have a list of the addons you have made replacements for? Thanks for clearing that up.
